Apprenticeships
McBraida recruit several new Engineering Apprentices each year. We view an apprenticeship as a long term commitment and expect our apprentices to come through the training programme and go on to develop their careers at McBraida. Many ex-apprentices have gone on to hold senior positions within the company.
Apprentices are put through a nationally recognised programme run by the British Engineering Manufacturers Association (BEMA) which leads to the NVQ3 qualification. Each apprentice has an individual training plan typically over 3-4 years which includes working in different areas of the factory with day release to the City of Bristol college to study City and Guilds, National Certificate or Higher National Certificate. The actual courses to be taken are discussed with each apprentice and are determined by academic achievement at GCSE level. Whilst academic achievement is important we value equally a genuine interest and aptitude for engineering and have successfully tailored apprentice programmes for people of different backgrounds.
